From Lynn’s Comments: I did this strip to address the readers who insisted I change Elly’s hairstyle. As one of the main characters in the strip, I felt I had to keep her looking relatively the same. Over the years, she sported a pony tail, a bun, and at one time, I “gave” her a perm. Still, the part-in-the-middle-and-tied -back-look was her signature and I didn’t want to alter it. The frump-look was firm. This strip let the critics know that I was aware of their hatred for the hairstyle…but I wasn’t about to change it!
I’ve had my hair pretty much the same since high school, with a 2-3 year exception when I was 20 & had it cut shorter…but grew it back out. I don’t care. It’s MY hair. My husband likes it, my daughters like it, even my boss likes it…but what’s most important is that I like it.
Absolutely nothing wrong with consistency, as long as you look good to begin with. Still, I don’t want to shave my beard, so I’m in no position to judge.
I’m thinking what everyone else is thinking. It’s pretty obvious from the expression on Ellie’s face where she’ll be heading next and it will be a place where things (probably) won’t end well..

You always have to give your haircut a week to grow in before you can actually think it looks terrible. It usually looks okay after it grows in a tad.

Establish standards. You can tell what kind of day you are having if you can maintain or improve them.

We ladies have mood hair. We cut it, color it, perm it, straighten it, and all manner of things to it.
If Dennis Rodman has mood hair, I don’t want to see his moods. {Brrr!}

Liz’s hair looks great. That sweater is awful.

“What’s the point of looking exactly the same?”
Says the ugly brunette woman who has a mouth as big as a pelican’s mouth!

Elizabeth’s hair looks better than at first, which is often true for haircuts.

Except for my hippie days in college, I have had the same haircut for nearly fifty years, but, of course, I’m a man.

Elly might want to change her look a bit, but not as drastically as Liz.

Love Liz’s Charlie Brown Sweater, too… Can’t wait to see Elle’s new haircut.

“I mean, what’s the point in looking exactly the same, day after day after day?!!”
Most comic strip characters do this, year after year after year. Elly is fortunate to be in a strip where the characters change their appearances.

No need to impress once you are married.

The balance between caring about the opinion of others and being happy with yourself is tricky. Elly needs to be happy with the person in the mirror

As usual, it is all about Elly.
