Many years ago, I was told that ‘floaters’ are remnants from your fetal days!!

Fortunately, there are no black floaters.

I don’t recall having floaters as a child. Didn’t know young people had those!

An ophthamologist told me that floaters are usually bits of shed material from the inner lining of the eye. They can be insignificant… or they can be signs of a serious condition. Detached retinas can evolve from such shedding. I got lotsa floaters, more as the years pass.

Once, while I was driving on a bright sunny afternoon, a massive flotilla of floaters suddenly erupted in my right eye. I was so disoriented that I had to pull over to the side of the road.

My eye doctor examined the eye and said that they were shed particles from the retinal “neighborhood” and probably not serious. I was still having trouble driving because they interfered with my vision. Doc told me that my brain would make the majority of them disappear by teaching my eye to look between or around them… but that they would always be there. Also that there would be more and more as years passed. That has proved to be the case.

And P.S., there are in fact black floaters in my eye. Not many. but there they are.

Looks just like mine. I also have a couple that look like black specks.

Hey those look JUST like what I see. First time I’ve ever seen an accurate representation. Except mine are a lot longer.

I see the square quilt pattern too, when I close my eyes.

I remember when I first noticed floaters, probably 35 years ago, when I looked at a clear, blue sky. I thought for sure I was going blind. Why didn’t my parents mention these things? I get why did didn’t bring up sex, but not some optic phenomena.
