I hated that. I could do most maths in my head up to Trig and my teachers always got on my case for “not showing my work.” Look teach, just cuz you can’t do the quadratic formula in your head doesn’t mean I can’t!
I never had a teacher tell me to “show my work” until Algebra in 7th grade.
I guess it might be relevant in fractions, like when you multiply to get the numerators and then add them and then reduce. If you mess up one step, the teacher might give you 1/3 credit for each part you got right.
I could never “show my work” because I could look at the equation and get the answer just by staring at it long enough. That was my work. Try showing that on a piece of paper!
Showing work-shows you did the work and didn’t copy from neighbor. If we are back in 6th grade(first year in middle school) how does Nate know the teacher?
I once drew a picture of a calculator. My math teacher was not amused..I always hated the “show your work” thing because I could generally work it out a lot more quickly than I could write the showing.
If you ever move on in life beyond the 6th grade and into the real world you will need to justify the decisions you make. Showing your work will show others how you succeeded and were able to help the company. Who am I kidding, it’s Nate.
I found showing work stupid at first when I was younger, but showing work soon mattered as soon as I started Pre-Algebra. You need to know all the steps since not all teachers give you a calculator

Meh. I have nothing to say on this one, the joke doesn’t work for me. Too basic.
4\10, showing your work is important because then you know it’s not just a guess.

Nate, that’s because you HAVE no work to show. Finished OR unfinished.

Ok, it depends how to show work. If it’s algebra, you must show work. If it’s arithmetic, you’re just unironically wasting time.

Well, showing your work is supposed to show where you went wrong if you got the wrong answer.

I hate it when the teacher hands you a calculator to give you the answers but they still ask you to show your work, like what? Bro?
