One of the things that I kept from my former place of employment is the calendar page from September 11, 2001. The ink may be a little faded but not the feelings from that day!
Rudy Giuliani could have given the police and Fire Department radios that would allow direct communications. He didn’t do that, and so FDNY didn’t get the message that the buildings were in danger of falling.
So few comic strips have noted today’s date. Thank you for this tribute.
Other comic strips honoring the 22nd anniversary of the tragedy (that I have found) are: The Wizard of Id, Heathcliff, CowTown, Dick Tracy, Lio, Luann (albeit subtly) and now Jump Start. Clay Jones also remembers in his editorial ’toon today. These are all here on the gocomics site.
9-11 is such a uniquely grim occasion that I don’t fault cartoonists ( or other prominent people) who decide not to commemorate it. In the past, I too, have moved past it to focus on more positive content. This year, I believed that it would do the strip’s characters well to remember….Thanks everyone for so much terrific feedback.
Some pro ball players make millions of dollars a year. What do Police and Firemen make? Who do we need more? You only realize this when the horror like the World Trade Center occurs. Yet idiots still tout “defund the Police”. Tell that to those who survived that terrible day. God bless them all.
