My brother had an 8-track in 1975. By 1977, it was replaced with a cassette player in the car. My brother is 64. How old is Papi?

My wife grew up in a military family. She tells this story about one trip they made across country.

Her Dad was an electronics hacker, he could wire and rewire anything. On one of their long trips he wired a reel to reel tape player into the vehicle’s electronics. The family listened to music across the country played on an old reel to reel machine.

It’s funny, but I think Gracie would know better than that, even if she didn’t know what kind of machine it would take to play it.

Some time ago when my grandkids were little (the oldest is 16) they were visiting and found some of my albums. The oldest came to me and asked, “PaPa what is this?” I told her, “This is how they used to store music. There are about 7 songs on a side and music is stored on both sides.” She said, "So big for so little. . "

Hand it to me Gracie, I’ll play it for you in the 8-track player in my ‘75 Pontiac Gand Ville Brougham Convertible. Yep, I’ve still got the old cruiser with the monster 455 under the hood and a big carrying case full of 8-track tapes in the trunk. I know it would bring way more to sell than what I paid in ‘75 but I just can’t part with something that’s given me so much pleasure to drive. There’s just something about your girl being able to slide up next to you on a leather covered bench seat even if you can hear the tape change tracks.

Very Fake News! Gracie is too smart to be this unaware of Papi’s old formats. She would have read it in a book, and she certainly wouldn’t try to “twang” it.

@AlondraRachellaLabute- Yes but cassettes were the bomb!! I taped a lot of DJ mix shows off the radio with them. In fact, I have about six cassette tape cases.

For all you young people, 8 tracks were better than a reed flute and a hollow log…

There are so many things that kids can’t figure out. And the list gets longer.

Again she shows that she’s not all that smart. Cartridge should have been in her vocabulary.

You keep pulling the tape out of it, that 8-track cartridge won’t be playing anything ever again.

I guess Papi didn’t plan on playing that tape again.
