There’s nothing like having to clean up after yourself to reduce the number of items you use when preparing a meal. When I was single and living by myself I became quite adept at making one pot meals. Janis, make Arlo clean up his mess!
You can’t cook everything in it, but one reason I love the pressure cooker, one pot. Plus the food has more flavor. This is the stove version, not electric, made in germany.
Last night I made a family favorite, Bacon and Butternut Pasta. Normally my wife cooks and I clean, but this dish requires a lot of standing and flitting from place to place cutting things up and tending various cooking things and mixing things over the course of half an hour or so. She had a knee replaced a few weeks ago and is not up to all that activity so I got both jobs. Totally worth it!
I was gone for a weekend, and hubby found some recipes and made two different one-pot meals. At least they were supposed to be one-pot. Every pan in the house was in and around the sink. I didn’t know that onions couldn’t be sauteed in the same pan as celery, and that meat deserved its own pan. He tried so hard that I cleaned up after him, and then taught him how to cook.

I don’t believe Janis sees herself as the sous-chef.

My mom used to make a dessert that took several bowls to make. It was very popular with everyone who tried it.

It’s not that much trouble if you use a mandoline!

Ratatouille is a bright and chunky summer vegetable stew, rich with olive oil and fragrant with garlic and herbs.

I clean up while cooking. Bowls, beaters, and spatulas in the dishwasher before I put my creation in the oven. All done!

My wife isn’t nearly as tactful when making comments as I cook with multiple pans.

When I cook/bake something with a lot of pans/bowls/utensils, I wash them as I go along. Less daunting in the end.

cleaning up is one of the major reasons I don’t cook — the others are preparation and… lack of talent

What is he beating? For a ratatouille you need to cut fresh vegetables, a dash of olive oil, herbs, and a casserole dish.
