The night after Larry Bird shot off his mouth at the championship rally in 1981 (“Moses Malone really does eat s***”), I was listening to Guy Mainella’s local radio sports talk program, and of course every caller wanted to talk about Bird’s remark. By about a dozen callers with identical sentiments, Mainella was so sick and tired of the subject — his own take was that Bird had done a dumb thing, he’d already apologized to Malone for it, done deal, move on — that the next caller to say “I wanna talk about Larry Bird” got a world-weary “Must you?” in response.

Never so glad to see an ending of an arc…
