If someone asks a hard-hitting question, will it leave a mark?

Did I lock the door?… checking… YES, I did! Well, just to be sure, let’s unlock it and lock it again. ☺

Not quite there, but, I DO check some things, probably too much. “Better safe than sorry.” “A stitch in time saves nine.” And they have saved me on more’n one occasion.

We were waiting for people to arrive at church and they had the big candle burning. It was melting lop-sided and was dripping burning drops of wax onto the wood candle stand. The pastor and I caught it before it got dramatic.

Ex wife was the same. I made a checklist for her so she could leave the house without anything like this occurring. Turns out her mother did leave something on/plugged in when she was younger and it did indeed burn out. It did not start a fire, but essentially fried its innards. It was an iron from the 1950s and needed replacing.

Did I remember to turn the home alarm system off before I went outside to work in the yard? I found out 15 minutes later when the police arrived in response to a call from the alarm company.

Misery loves company so I am glad to know that I am not alone in having that affliction. In my case, it’s a refrigerator door that doesn’t always close completely causing me to waste an inordinate amount of time checking it.

I can definitely relate. If I don’t check that the garage door is closed and the door to the house is locked before bed, I can’t sleep. I also look back in my rear view mirror to make sure the garage is closed everytime I leave the house.

This is basically the premise for “Beau is Afraid” except Beau’s imagined worst case scenarios were much more extreme.
