email for more details.
Over the past 10 years or so, Dean Winters has starred in so many really funny, clever Allstate commercials as âMayhem,â and I never get tired of watching them.
Iâm in my 70s, and I had problems watching long commercial breaks when I was young because of my short attention span. I canât imagine how todayâs youth with their super short attention spans can watch TV. Thank goodness for DVRs.
Every so often, thereâs a good ad on TV. But the bulk of them are so bad Iâd have to imagine any random stranger off the street is more qualified than your average, overpaid ad exec. Anyone remember the âreal peopleâ Chevy ads where they basically lied directly to the audience and told them it was true? They were paid actors pretending to be in a consumer clinic. Or the âwhat ifâ Toyota ads, whereâŠthey basically lied directly to the audience, but found a loophole by adding âwhat ifâ before it? âWhat if a truck got 50 MPG?* (*Note: No trucks sold by Toyota get anywhere near 50 MPGâbut WHAT IF! AmIright?! Câmon!)â
My favorite insurance commercial was shot in Australia I think.
It showed a couple of sailplanes, and a guy walked up to one and started looking the cockpit over.
Another guy walked up, they shook hands, got in, and the tow line pulled them off the ground. Then, 2 more guys, wearing jackets, came up and started looking around. They heard the line release, turned, and the back of their jackets read âInstructorâ.
Iâve never understood why anyone would buy something as serious as insurance because the companyâs commercial made them laugh. But apparently it works. Nutso.

Some ads are more entertaining than the show, at least the first time you see them.

The Geico ad with the farmer in the spelling bee was funny. And the one with the woodchucks.

Commercials have become like mini shows for me. I often remember the funny ones, but not what they were selling.

It kind of happened. The short-lived ABC comedy series, Cavemen, came from the caveman GEICO commercials. 2007 one-season wonder.

Talk shows are indeed more boring than commercials.
