RJ is right. The rules are stupid.

The pawn. The first transsexual figure in gaming.

Interesting how the least powerful piece in the game seems to have the most rules and restrictions on what it can do and how it can move.

It doesn’t have to be a Queen. I can think of situations where making it a Knight would result in Checkmate.

Chess is supposed to be a game of strategic thinking, something which RJ lacks.

This is how bad I am at chess. I never knew about the pawn-to-queen rule. Granted I have only played maybe 50 games in my ENTIRE life. Still I don’t play checkers, but I know about the “king me” rule. Also how does one tell that the pawn is not a queen? At least with checkers you can place on atop the other.

Chess is an intellectual sport. Definitely not for the likes of RJ or Hammy. Do you think George might be a worthy opponent for Verne?

The queen can not move in any direction it wants. Only a knight can move as a knight.

I discovered while teaching that someone who claims something is stupid is probably the stupid one.

Verne won’t allow RJ to quit because he smells the sweet thrill of victory and it’s been a while since he’s had a win. (He’d better hope that RJ doesn’t use the famed “cow takes king” defense.

I’m reasonably sure that at least a couple of the screwier rules in chess were invented mid-game by “nobles” who were losing at the time.

Isn’t it interesting how many games are based on war strategies … chess, checkers, most games involving scoring with a ball, e.g., American football, soccer, etc.

Pawns act as a screen from which the bishops, knights and rooks can strike. Led by the queen while the king cowers in a corner.
