Back in the 1960’s my wife did some special duty nursing for “la famia.” She was class president at her nursing school and there was racial strife at the school and her life was threatened.

One Friday, as she was ready to go home for the weekend, she got a call from the front desk at the dorm to inform her that she had a couple of “gentlemen callers” to meet her. They looked like they came from central casting for “The Godfather.” They were dressed in pin stripped suits, fedoras and wore sunglasses.

Her friend, Suzie, explained that they were her “uncles.”

They drove her home. They never asked where she lived.
