I thought for sure that Lucy was going to knock down the stack of blocks by the last panel—but that assumption was based on her character when she’s older. This is another great example of how Schulz changed her personality, from passive in her early appearances to aggressive years later.
Peanuts of the 50s showed influence of Surrealism and Dada and other Modernist movements in a way I love. As time went on, the strip focused mostly on psychology (plus Snoopy’s whimsical fantasies), and dropped the arty jokes.
