The Electoral College is a brilliant idea from our Founders to keep us a republic. So was the way Senators were originally appointed by the states. They feared total democracy and it appears they were right to do so.
ours is a Constitutional Republic whereby We The People retain full authority to govern…read the Declaration of Independence…without THAT document there would be no Constitution…
An electoral college made sense in an agrarian, unconnected age. Since we now have the wherewithal to publish the actual vote counts in almost real-time, they seem overcomplicated.
No other country has this. Whoever gets the most votes should win. If that had happened in 2000 and in 2016, the country and the world would be vastly better off.
You don’t vote for a president. You vote for the guys who will elect him. And they don’t have any obligation to follow your vote. They were intended to keep illiterate rubes from having too much influence on the process.

Boy ain’t that the truth. Kill the Electoral College now and let the American voters have a real vote that actually counts

The founding Fathers feared democracy (for good reason) , and tried to create a government structure that would limit democracy’s power and influence.
If America moves to a true democracy, it won’t last much longer after that.

Can’t trust the popular vote anyway with so much fraud going on.

That would be “fewer” votes , not “less” votes.

The Electoral College saves us from the abuses of raw “democracy,” which is really ochlocracy.
