Bi-Polar is right, it is insensitive. Anansi obviously is not sensitive calling others names but is very much so when called a name. Sounds like a lot of people I know â very self-centered.
Oh! My!! Cat!!! Yes!!! Anything you say, can & probably will be held against you!!! Yes, people DO make incredibly thoughtless, stupid, insane comments, but, to be rudely yelled at for saying âHappy Thanksgivingâ or âMerry Christmasâ is just too awful. Fine. You have no use for religion, or âancient people who did wrong thingsâ. Just smile & say thank you, but I donât celebrate holidays, or some such thing. Donât yell at me.
I got into an argument with one fellow who insisted it was fine to refer to Muslims as âMohammedans,â because they followed the teachings of Mohammed (or however anyone chooses to spell it). I pointed out that Muslims donât approve of being called Mohammedans. Although I canât recall his exact phrasing in response, it was something to the effect that they should âget overâ being concerned with how other people chose to describe them.
Then, since he was Roman Catholic (and frequently brought that into conversation), I asked if he objected to being called a âpapist,â since he followed the authority of the Pope (at least as long as the Pope wasnât taking a liberal line as Francis does). He acknowledged that he found âpapistâ a very offensive term. The corollary regarding Muslims, however, still seemed to completely go over his head.
The web material doesnât come from the spider spitting, but we understand the censorâs are watching. Bill Mauldin had a WWII cartoon where an under impressed army cook commented about a general officer coming for dinner said, âAnother dang mouth to feed, and his spit donât smell like ice cream.â GIs knew the uncensored word without him spelling it out.
Any comment calculated to be offensive, is. And by the way, Mohamedan isnât equivalent in terms of actual meaning to ââJesusianâ, or Cristian. The term Islam means more than someone who follows the teachings of Mohamed, and this from someone who is far more familiar about both than anyone should be and doesnât âbelieveâ in either.

There is insensitive, and there is also being frustrated by todayâs short-fused, high-offense society.
