For those interested, Truffles first appeared in the strip on March 31, 1975, as part of a story arc that ran from March 24 to April 19 of that year. The current story arc originally ran in January -February of 1977
The first time I saw Truffles it was somewhat visually jarring because her character design was so different from the others. I often wonder if Schulz allowed someone (a family member, perhaps?) to design a new character and he promised he would use it in the strip.
After the initial shock this character really began to grow on me. Truffles is probably one of my favorite secondary members of Peanuts. I wish she had been featured more often; she could have moved to Charlie Brown’s city or transferred to his school.
I knew a first grade teacher who took her class on a trip to the zoo. But one kid didn’t get on the bus to go back and the teacher never missed him! No, she didn’t lose her job over that, or a bunch of other stuff either.

Truffles? I’ve never heard of, or seen Truffles before, she looks like one of those kids that was locked up in the attic.

Kids usually look forward to field trips. Then again, Sally doesn’t even look forward to school.
