NATIONAL CHOCOLATE CAKE DAY. By sheer coincidence, I happen to have some chocolate cake in my fridge, so I must be sure to have a piece of it today
HOLOCAUST REMEMBRANCE DAY. It still shocks me that there are people who don’t believe the Holocaust really happened. It’s shocking enough that it really did happen.
VIETNAM PEACE DAY
NATIONAL FRUITCAKE TOSS DAY. If someone gave me a fruitcake (I would never buy one for myself), I would not be tossing it out today. The day I got it, I would have found someone to give it to who actually LIKES fruitcake. No sense in throwing it away.
NATIONAL SEED SWAP DAY. I happen to have some seeds I’d like to trade (or even give away). I bought some green bean seeds last year. A variety called Roma. It’s an Italian green bean. I grow extra green beans in my garden every year to sell in our break room and I give the money to the Children’s Miracle Network. Well, these particular beans don’t look like green beans. They look more like snow peas. And they did not sell well in our break room. To be honest, they tasted just fine, but even I was somewhat prejudiced against them just based on how they looked. It was a big package of seeds that I got from a seed catalog, so I have a lot of seeds left. But I won’t be planting them this year. I’m sticking with more traditional varieties. Ones that look like green beans rather than looking like snow peas. I know someone who might like the seeds. If she doesn’t want them, I’ll need to find someone else to take them.
Very happy to report that Ivy is back to her old self after her issues and subsequent vet visit yesterday. She’s been outside for some grass, and is now snoozing happily in her headed enclosed bed in the conservatory :-)
That’s a nice little story from Jellybean. Somehow, I missed reading Wind in the Willows when I was a child. I’ll have to get it on Kindle and read it there.
Ah, Wind in the Windows. The classic tale of amphibian auto theft. One of these days, I’ve got to read that book. On another note, saw a varied thrush, a junco, and two chickadees while out walking today.

Did Mr. Toad have a driver’s license? Issued by what authority?
Edwin, I’d prefer you wait until you are old enough to buy your own green motorcar, by which time you should have a real license.

I also had “Wind in the Willows” once – but that tree got so disgusted, it shook me off his branches…

He’ll be driven crazy and have to blot things out, since there is no passing the Rorschach Test.

Or in a pinch, he’ll settle for a gasoline-powered one.
