Like the cartoon, my wife’s boss wanted to carpool with her. Extolled the virtues of saving gas, saving money, less pollution, ability to talk about work problems during the commute…
Only the boss saved any gas or money – she expected my wife to drive every day. As with the cartoon, going to the boss’s house about doubled her commute. Boss tried to get extra unpaid work from my wife – not only by “talking about work problems during the commute” but also expected my wife to stay and work late if the boss was staying late. (Wife was on salary, so no overtime pay). Boss rarely (and grudgingly) chipped in any gas money.
This went on for about six months, until my wife retired. The kicker – her boss still expected her to drive her to work. Claimed that since my wife was now retired she didn’t have anything else to do anyways…

Really want to conserve, Dana? Kick her out and let her walk.

What’s hanging from the seat belts?

Turn her into a dog, Dana. Then she’ll stick her head out the window for the rest of the drive.

You know, Rita, you should offer to reimburse Dana for her gas before she turns you into a toadstool.

Dana, Dana, Dana, it’s not efficient to go so far out of your way drive an Artichoke to work… ☺

Poof Rita into a plant. Then she’ll be giving back oxygen instead of wasting it

There may be a net gain there but Rita is receiving all the benefit.
