I guess that’s easier to imagine than it sending data directly to her brain. But that’s probably mostly because I’ve never had electrodes installed on mine.
It’s a mental screen that she can see in her own mind.
I said yesterday about if we will someday far into the future be able to access the internet from our own brains and listen to music in our heads without needing earbuds.
Although some of us can already do that.
probably the first thing will be being able to use a computer and control the pointer with our minds and not need a keyboard or mouse.
Then there will someday be games that you can just think of what you want your character to do and they’ll do it.
or maybe games that you play in your own mind, which could be dangerous and cause a Jumanji type experience.
if you die in the virtual brain game world, your brain might also die and you become a vegetable.
Although I don’t think Marigold is doing anything that extreme, though I’m sure with her magic she could teleport herself and Phoebe into a video game and that would make a really fun strip.
there are already concept wrist phones that project the virtual screen onto your palm and you touch the buttons like you would on any other phone.
But Marigold is doing this inside her brain.
I am certain that unicorns in Phoebe’s world could always text each other before phones or Internet were ever invented.
but nowadays they rely on the reception grid that normal people use.
It is easier and uses little to no magic to do it.

So does the “MAR” in Marigold stand for “magically-augmented reality”?
