I was grooming my cat one day and she was loving it—purring and drooling with pleasure … until she decided she’d had enough and, in a flash, turned and bit me clean through my thumb! I had to go to the emergency room and get a tetanus shot, and she had to be quarantined in my house for 10 days (no problem since she was an indoor cat). Cats are unpredictable!!!
Dogs don’t like hands coming down in front of their vision and blocking their view. Pet dogs from the side, ideally, and they should know you are there first. If it’s your dog, they probably will learn to trust you to block their vision over time.
As a child I once overpatted a semi-domesticated stray cat. When he’d had enough he didn’t quite bite but briefly held my finger in his teeth. I was very impressed with both his moderate behaviour and the needle sharpness of his teeth.

Not gonna get adopted until he learns not to bite the hand that feeds him.

Dogs don’t like being patted on the head because it shows dominance… and they like to feel they’re the dominant one!

They only grab, not bite. At least the ones I’ve met.
