Hmmm! Getting a bit uppity there aren’t you, Fred. I’m not saying you guys aren’t supremely upstanding doggy citizens, but that doesn’t make you better than just the average neighbor’s dog.
In later strips, the Vicar would have the fiercest dog in the strip – more fierce than Brutus. One strip had Fred being barked at by a dog in a garden. Fred was thinking, “Satan! The fiercest dog in the district!” The next panel showed that it was the Vicarage Garden and the Vicar was wagging a finger at Satan and saying, “Naughty boy!” A later strip had Fred meeting the dog outside the Vicarage. Fred thought, “Satan!” The next panel had Satan chasing Fred who was thinking, “There’s only one place I’m safe from him.” The last panel showed Fred in Church hiding behind the Vicar.
I don’t remember ever seeing a Bull Terrier here before! We had one – a real cuddle pup – and he lived to be 15. We don’t see all that many of them out and about, and if someone doesn’t recognize the name of the breed, we just say “a General Patton dog” or “Spuds McKenzie”.

Sigh…Fred, Fred. Don’t try to brown-nose those guys. Jock and Yorkie are WAY more down-to-earth and will be your friends no matter what!

Is this Vicar’s dog, Satan?
Or does he get another dog later?
Dad says that is not Satan’s breed.
