One of the coolest things to watch on youtube are very old movies that have been computer enhanced to smooth out the video with a higher frame rate to eliminate flicker and add color. Suddenly the past looked so much like today, and you realize how little has actually changed as far as people go.
there’s an oak tree in my back yard, I planted it years ago and now it is taller than the house, and in the summer, under the canopy, in the deep shade I swear I’m back to being a little boy in NY
My brother asked me what I find attractive about watching old Perry Mason episodes. They’re also black-and-white and past-y, and I just like them. Maybe it’s because I also like to play Spot The Cameo, with some players (Victor Buono) appearing more frequently than others (Robert Redford).
When I was 10 or so, I asked my dad why the TV show Combat, about WWII, was in B&W, while Bonanza was in color. Why couldn’t they make Combat in color? “It was in B&W,” he said. He was there, so I guess he knew.

So Calvin’s dad was right when he said the world used to be black and white?

Was the end of the oil painting era a side effect of the civil war.

No, the nineties are just blurry, and shot from near the ground with a fish eye lens.

Go back 100 years, and it wasn’t just black and white, but there was no noise either!

Somewhere in the future somebody is probably thinking “Gosh, I wonder what life was like way back in 2024?”

How far back do you have to go to get to tapestry level of appearance? Marigold meets the fiery snail.

Kodachrome film was invented in the 1930s. My dad said the world was black and white (and sometimes sepia) before then.
