/// On the Yacht (named) “Namouna,” (off) Venice,

summer heat, smells and waves were a menace.

    Lillie, slumped in a chair,

    suffers from mal de mer,

wishing they were ashore playing tennis.

Evidence of the results one gets when the easel is not properly balanced before the artist begins.

The sea is actually quite calm. It’s the painter that’s sloshed.

It was the Belle Époque for those lounging on the deck; not so much for those beneath it.

    On the Yacht "Namouna“, Venice

    Paste (including the quote marks)

    "Category:Yachts in art" Wikimedia

(syntax supported by the Google, Bing, Yahoo, DuckDuckGo, Ecosia and Yandex search engines) in the browser address bar (or search for it using one of those search engines) and choose the first Category: found and once there find the text string Stewart, and click its link for info and links that point to more info about this huge painting, along with a Description

Again, a larger strip image is shown by (Ctrl- or right-) clicking the image in Mr. Melcher’s MASTERPIECE #3303 (April 12, 2024) blog entry, accessible by the Check out the blog! box after the last comment, and using the dropdown menu (even larger, if you trim what’s after .png from the URL). I have added a comment there pointing the blog entry with my comment pointing to info about this artist I used to point to here. So far, 7 works (8 times, including a repeat) by him have been used here, the July 19, 2023, strip being the prior.

Five swells on a rather large craft/

Being viewed by the artist from aft/

    Of whom at least one/

    Future cruising will shun:

Said Milady “I must have been daft !”

(she’s afraid she’ll end up on a raft..)

Only a three hour tour they said. It’ll be fun they said. We better get syndication out of this or I want my money back!

The sickness incurred from a boat’s motion

As it maneuvers waves on the ocean

    Is most unpleasant to discern

Whether at the bow or the stern

You feel your innards in commotion.

    .

Those unused to the feeling did moan ‘Uuuh…’

Even on the large yacht ‘Namouna’.

The captain served refreshments most tempting

But some found their hunger pangs exempting,

And the fish overboard enjoyed a feast plethora.

    .

Venice feels humid, the canals often smell fetid

    And for those already light-headed,

Their stomachs bloat with bile and gas,

As if soon to burst like Venetian glass,

    Stoic composure until now, shredded!

    .

Venice is a marvel in city design

And its art treasures considered so fine

That Thomas Mann’s story seemed quite a smear

When ‘Death in Venice’ did in print appear,

And Cholera finished Gustav’s moral decline.

OK! So dropping the anchor and going around in circles isn’t as fun as I thought it would be! Stop pestering me!

The secret is to go to the lowest center point of the boat. I learned that from a Professor in Oceanography who would get very seasick, would always go to his doctor for ear patches. Picked the wrong specialty, me thinks.

If you’re going to cruise on a ketch/

You have no real reason to kvetch/

    You’re a privileged person/

    But the weather may worsen/

Which will give you a reason to retch..
