Questions for Will:1. Favorite character to write for? 2. Favorite current comics? 3. Graphic novel recommendations? 4. Shwaps comic mini-story when? 5. Ever miss Bill?
It seems that Nature for Spud is very similar to Nature for Ordinary Bill – vaguely hostile at the best of times, outright abusive at others. That was one of my favourite things about Ordinary Bill, I’m glad to see a bit of it here in Wallace the Brave. I’d just like to say that Wallace is the most uniquely original strip out there right now, there’s nothing quite like it. Thanks for your very special sense of humour Will Henry!
Hey Will. Not a question but I did want to say that I think this is the best comic since Calvin and Hobbes. I am 61 and Wallace is right up there with coffee as a daily essential. Thank you for the great work!
How about another question for Will: do you garden?I’m going to the beach next week but after that I’m planting my garden, still trying to decide what to plant. I’ve got the basics jalapeños, tomatoes, lettuce, cabbage and bell peppers, any recommendations? First time in years I’ve had a dedicated space outside of a few pots or AeroGarden.
First off, love your strip, Will. The artwork is great, and the characters are unique and entertaining. If you’re looking for new ideas/directions to develop the story, I would suggest adding more subplots involving them in school. It would be a way to introduce new characters (if you want) and there’s lots of new and potentially humorous situations that could result. Maybe there’s a super-strict teacher that the kids could team up together to foil in different ways, or some of the kids could join a team of some sort. I also like the development of the mom into her own distinct personality (surfer, etc…) and not being defined purely as a mother figure. Final suggestion, perhaps explore the town more, and it’s quirky inhabitants, lots of potential hijinks and subplots there. (Town drunk? Town Ghost? Some lingering mystery that needs solving?). Anyway, keep up the great work!
Not a question, just a thank you! I loved the reunion scene between “Wally” and Carl, so much so that I bought the framed strip. Carl’s “I did the remembering for both of us” still brings me close to tears. I think it linked me to the rest of the world, not just the strip. May you draw for many more years!
A couple more suggestions (if that’s ok). Maybe introduce a quirky relative who either lives in town or visits periodically (think – the weird grandma in Cul de Sack). Also, maybe the town has an annual festival of some kind, maybe a celebration of the fisherman lost to the sea or a feast for the scary deity of the ocean, who, legend has it, rises out of the ocean every few years to claim a bride. Finally, love your wide-angle panels where you show the panorama of the harbor!
Ok! That’s it for me folks. I tried to get to everyone, and if I missed you it, wasn’t intentional, the commenting format on gocomics is a little strange. Anyway, thanks for reading the comic and for all the nice words. I’m putting the pen down for the day and am gonna go be dad for a bit. See you on the funny pages!

Translation error. It meant to say “Spud.”

To Mr. Henry: Do you have any new Wallace collections in the works? Also I think a Wallace the brave graphic novel would be really cool.

Good morning, Will! We really appreciate the obvious effort you put into drawing and coloring WTB. How long does it take to produce a strip?

“Mr. Natural”? Is Spud Flakey Foont?

Will, most of Wallace’s family seem to be people we’d like to be at various ages and roles in life. What was the inspiration for Sterling though?

You’re not called Spud for no reason at all. Mr Potato Head is an icon in our society. Tell nature, Thank You….

I should also have mentioned how light and free your line and palette show! Another reason to be glad for Wallace.

What planet would Sterling most likely be from?

We would do well to listen when Mother Nature speaks.. um.. but maybe try not to take it too personally.

On my list, Wallace is second only to Peanuts. Third is the long-running wonderful quirky Safe Havens.
