You have to buy a lot of replacement lenses or go around in a fog. If you don’t wash or, at least, blow off the grit before wiping, you score the lenses every time .
I only do this in an emergency and as gently as possible.
A flannel shirt, or a t-shirt tail. Dampen them with a huff of breath. The protective coatings still don’t stand a chance. I’ve become accustomed to the world in a fog.
