I recall a religious co-worker who once explained to me that she didn’t pray to God for things, she prayed for strength and guidance to be the best person she could be.
Then there was the woman (mother of a girl I liked in high school) who went crazy on me when I told her I was an atheist. In her hysterical rant, she informed me that I would be calling on God and Jesus for help when I was strung up and my skin was being peeled off piece by piece.
I’m still an atheist these many years later, but you can imagine which philosophy I find to be the more enlightened.
We are not to pray for material things but we are to pray to God for help with dealing with whatever we are facing and to thank him for sending his Son, Jesus Christ, to us so that we can have the chance to live forever in God’s new earth without the evil things we face today- John 3:16.

Don’t worry, Trout’s a smart girl; pretty soon she’ll figure that they’re not the same, what with Mom being real and all.

Seeing is believing. When it comes to Mom at least.

A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of small minds.
