When he hears himself belching, he hangs his head and cries.

There was an experiment where a person entered a room where there were several plants of the same species. He violently destroys one of the plants. Later when the same person comes back into the room the remaining plants register a galvanic response akin to panic.

It has been proven, that when you mow your lawn, the plants undergo a reaction to the mowing. No one can really say what nervous systems are like in all living things. Also trees will produce chemicals to kill intruding plants.

I’ve heard of talking to plants, but not plants talking to you. Life is funny that way.

The broccoli family were growing up along the side of the road. They were happy, but papa broccoli thought the other side of the road was better. Better light, better water, more room to grow. After a family discussion, they all decided to move, all except grandpa. This was his home, his roots were here, and this is where he was gonna stay. After the others moved, he was lonely. He realized his mistake and decided to move to be with them. He was crossing the road when wham, he got nailed by a truck.

After hours of surgery the doctor broccoli came out of the operating room to talk to the family. “The good news is, your grandfather will live. The bad news is, he’ll be a vegetable for the rest of his life.”

All week all that comes to mind for me is the song “Carrot Juice is Murder” by The Arrogant Worms. Here are the lyrics:Listen up brothers and sisters, come hear my desperate taleI speak of our friends of nature, trapped in the dirt like a jailVegetables live in oppression, served on our tables each nightThe killing of veggies is madness, I say we take up the fightSalads are only for murderers, coleslaw’s a fascist regimeDon’t think that they don’t have feelings, just ‘cause a radish can’t scream

I’ve heard the screams of the vegetables (scream scream scream)Watching their skins being peeled (Having their insides revealed)Grated and steamed with no mercy (burning off calories)How do you think that feels (bet it hurts really bad)Carrot Juice constitutes murder (and that’s a real crime)Greenhouses’ prisons for slaves (let my vegetables grow)It’s time to stop all this gardening (it’s as dirty as hell)Let’s call a spade a spade (is a spade is a spade is a spade…)

I saw a man eating celery, so I beat him black and blueIf he ever touches a sprout again, I’ll bite him clean in twoI’m a political prisoner trapped in a windowless cage‘cause I stopped the slaughter of turnips by killing five men in a rageI told the judge when he sentenced me, this is my finest hourI’d kill those farmers again just to save one more cauliflower

I’ve heard the screams of the vegetables (scream scream scream)Watching their skins being peeled (Having their insides revealed)Grated and steamed with no mercy (burning off calories)How do you think that feels (bet it hurts really bad)Carrot Juice constitutes murder (and that’s a real crime)Greenhouses’ prisons for slaves (let my vegetables grow)It’s time to stop all this gardening (it’s as dirty as hell)Let’s call a spade a spade (is a spade is a…)How low as people do we dare to stoopMaking young broccoli’s bleed in the soupUntie your beans, uncage your tomatoes, let potted plants freeDon’t mash that potato ooooh oooo

♫ Plant a radish, get a radish, never any doubt. That’s why I like vegetables, you know what they’re about. ♫
