We got a fresh dollar bill from a charity the other day. We’re not donating to organizations so fiscally irresponsible that they send cash to strangers willy-nilly!
You still have dollar bills? Canada dumped the $1.00 and $2.00 bills for $1.00 and $2.00 coins long ago, and called them the loony and the twoonie. The loonies are the politicians who came up with those names.
I usually put begging letters straight into the shredder, until one day the change they had inside broke my shredder. The charities I support don’t beg.
That’s what I wonder when I get the same thing in the mail. I emailed one organization and told them not to waste the coins or postage for a donation. I am on a limited income and will give when I have extra to donate!!!
I was in Marketing for over 40 years. When we used to do surveys we found we’d get about a 1 or 2% response rate but if we put a dollar in the envelope, we’d get a 50-70% response rate. People felt obligated to respond to earn the dollar. Doubt it works as well when asking for donations but expect it more than pays for itself.
I will not donate to ANY organization that spends my donation on junk that they send to me (pens, stamps, nickels, pads of note paper, greeting cards, blankets, etc).

I used to get stuff like that. Peeled the money off and shredded the paper.

I haven’t gotten one of those mailers in a very long time. I guess they actually took the hint. That or they ran out of money with that strategy.

It’s all about the guilt. It must work for them enough to keep doing it.

I remember a Reader’s Digest campaign where they sent two pennies and another when they sent a dime.

Keeps you from shredding the “ ask “ without opening the envelope too. I wrecked a shredder learning this, I hate to admit.
