I recall an old Candid Camera episode where they rigged up a flower on a restaurant customer’s table so it would bend like that into the guy’s water glass and actually suck out some of the water.

If you need to water a plant while away, put a big bottle next to the plant, and an old rag from the bottle to the soil by the plant. Capillary action will move the water, perhaps too fast if the rag is too wide.

I remember a Charles Addams cartoon where a withered street tree (they used to plant them inside special holes in the sidewalks) had forced a root up through the cement and was reaching for a drink on a table at a cafe.
