Isn’t that always the way? That’s why it’s best to have a dummy bunker as a honey trap, for when the feral mutated neighbors come for your oatmeal slop and 78000 rounds of ammo.
My guess is the first survivors to emerge will put external locks on the hatches of those still down below. There will not be many resources to compete for.
Used to work as an electrician, and several of our projects were to wire doomsday bunkers. I think the doomsday preppers liked our boss – thought he was one of them (he wasn’t). Those preppers were paranoid and unhinged. I walked off one job site when the guy thought he was going to hold a gun on me while I worked.
None of the bunkers I saw looked very effective. Most were only capable for sustaining people for a short time, and would not withstand the onslaught that their owners imagined. More than once I suggested to replace the diesel generator with solar panels (diesel will run out quickly, while making noise and smoke that would attract marauders. Also if civilization is truly destroyed where do you get more diesel?). Was told solar panels were not welcome because they were “woke”…
My boss said that he installed security equipment for some bunkers, and included his own password to defeat the system and get in if he wanted.

That’s what happens when you forget the doomsday bunker gals.

It’s like not wanting to belong to a club that would have you as a member.
