Two Eskimos have killed a walrus and they are on their way to their settlement. They are pulling the walrus by the tail, but it’s really hard to pull since its tusks keep digging into the snow and the tail continuously slips out of their grip.

Halfway home, they come across a geologist. The geologist sees their struggle and says:

“You should grab the walrus by its tusks, that way you can hold it better and the tail will just slide on the snow”.

The Eskimos try that and it’s indeed easier. So the Eskimos and the geologist part ways. In a few hours one Eskimo says:

“Geologist smart. Really easy to pull walrus”.

    The other exclaims:

“Stupid your geologist! Look, we come back to ocean!”

    London bridge was finally found

They moved it to another town

And now all the people gather round

To watch the bridge fall down

But I don’t think it will no more

(from “P F Sloane” by Jimmy Webb)

As Jerry Jeff Walker sang on London Homesick Blues, the song that played on PBS’s Austin City Limits opening for years “Even London Bridge has fallen down, and moved to Arizona. Now I know why”. I always loved that song, especially the line, “And I’ll substantiate the rumor that the English sense of humor is drier than the Texas sand”.

Instead of zzzzzz, that walrus should be thinking, “Goo goo ja joob.”

My understanding was that McCulloch genuinely believed that he was buying Tower Bridge. Many non-Londoners believe Tower Bridge is called London Bridge. In the same way as many believe that the clock-tower beside the Houses of Parliament, is Big Ben, especially if you Google Big Ben, the first ten pages depict the tower…

London bridge was moved to Lake Havasu, built on dry ground (on a peninsula) and then dredged under it to create an island with the bridge connecting the two. It still has chips out of the stone where bullets had hit it during times of warfare. Very cool place to visit.

The guy who bought the London Bridge thought he was buying the TOWER Bridge. Not too bright, that guy.

I walked across that bridge when it was in London and again, many years later, in Arizona.
