Fortunately Andy and Chalkie can drink away their pain in Jack’s pub. Especially with the extra money Chalkie is making. There’s an up side to everything.
Next time that you have a win at the bookies’ place, buy a few extra beers, and pop them in the fridge as an emergency supply (presuming that you have a refrigerator). Get Flo to put a lock on it.
22 June. As I mentioned last month when I commented on the sixty-fourth anniversary of the first issue of the 1960-2000 comic Buster, I remember Buster merging with a comic called Cor!! in 1974. The first issue of Buster and Cor!! was dated 22 June 1974.
The relevance to Andy Capp, as some readers will be aware, is that the title strip in Buster had originally been “Buster – Son of Andy Capp”. This was allowed because Buster Comic was owned by Mirror Group Newspapers. During the 1990s, Mirror Group Newspapers would own Buster Comic again and the title “Buster – Son of Andy Capp” would be revived. When I started reading Buster in 1973, the title strip had been “Buster’s Dream World” with Buster falling asleep and starting to dream in every first panel and being woken up in the last panel. When Buster merged with Cor!!, the title strip changed to “Buster’s Diary” with Buster narrating an adventure to us.

Ask a stupid question, Jack… Reckon that the worthless loser has been unsuccessful in stealing Flo’s earnings.

Look at the bright side, Andy. Working longer hours means he’s getting overtime which means more free pints for you to cage from him. Dilly! Dilly!

What a shame Andy. What a shame Andy. Poor Chalkie slaving away to earn his crust and you got first dibs on it? After taxes of course.

Where does Chalkie work, anyway? “Firm” implies a kind of white collar job.

Andy is such a vile irredeemable person with no notable qualities, yet I keep coming back to see more. Nutty.

If chalkie has any sense at all he’ll tell Andy to shove it.
