I once was going to do a comic of all the dumb crap I had to put up with while working at retail. I got one comic done and decided that there was no way I could do that regularly.

Write about NOT writing comics. Subversive.

Actually, a good outline is needed to set up story pacing and allow for the dialog to fit in the panels. Trust me. Been there, done that.

For inspiration, pick an entertaining theme, and then quickly write down a lot of ideas on the theme, without concern for usability. Some ideas will lead to other ideas; and few will be used. For example, for a birthday card, I will often start with the words already in the card, and then construct a poem around them by first writing down a lot of words that rhyme or nearly rhyme with the existing words. Any project has “waste”. For poems and comics, the waste includes unused ideas.
