That book sounds suspiciously like an entry out of the old Anarchist Cookbook. I am on the fence about whether that makes Ernesto a bit more intriguing, or a bit more cringy.
It’s sad that nobody’s ever picked up this comic strip for a motion picture or at least a television series. It’s got a whole host of weird, complicated characters and some of the most unique story lines that could possibly be expanded. Maybe something of a cross between Peanuts and Beevis & Butthead!?
I know this is a cartoon, and forgive me for getting heavy about this, but here goes….to take current mores and transpose them to previous times (“weaponize school paste”) that were DIFFERENT is the worst sort of brain rot because most people have no way of differentiating. It is SO important to know that things have not always been the way they are now, that people did not always think the way they do now, that principles and ethics were held in higher esteem previously, that critical thinking actually DID exist. To lose that is tragic. To exacerbate that is… Well, suffice it so say that if current behavior/thought were prevalent 50, 60 years ago we wouldn’t have made it this far.
I started working at a library that’s barely a decade old. I was surprised to hear the assistent director comment to weed a badly damaged book as it was nine years old! The last library I worked at I found a book from 1898 while weeding and we kept it! (reference not circulating, but still ;] )

If it hasn’t been checked out since 1957, the librarians are not doing their jobs. Deaccessioning makes way for newer books.

Does “school paste” like we had back in the ’60s even exist anymore?

Pay attention while compounding. The glowing green hand soap is not the same as the pink.

That was back when we had bomb scares and had to hide under our desks.

Once the weaponization of Glue Sticks was complete – Paste pretty much was decommissioned.
