Hopefully, we’ll all eventually reach that age and stage when we realize where we should relinquish the reins and let someone else take charge. That doesn’t mean ceding our creativity, intelligence, or independence. It simply means we must recognize that it’s someone else’s turn to shoulder all the responsibility.

As I enter my octogenarian decade this Fall, I grudgingly admit that, although I am in good health and in good shape for my years, I no longer have the strength and stamina I once did. It is time to accept the assistance of others graciously when it is offered – a difficult concession for one who has been so fiercely independent as I have throughout my life.

The secret of maturity is Understanding and Acceptance.

Mike, I hope you realize that 9 Chickweed Lane by Brooke McEldowney is stealing some of your best stuff right now.

“The Devil’s Gallop” would also be good.

I think it’s interesting that the two iconic British comedies have American theme songs: Benny Hill has Yakety Sax by Boots Randolph, and Monty Python uses the Liberty Bell March by John Philip Sousa. Not that there’s anything wrong with that…

Mike seems to be more the Mr. Bean type though.
