I wonder if Paris syndrome (tourists finding reality of Paris compared to the romantic version leaves them in shock) would come into play if she went there?
My first trip to Paris, I didn’t see “lovers strolling along the Seine”. But I heard them in the room next to mine. Oh, I HEARD them all right, every freaking morning!
In Paris for the Olympics you’re going to see fences and barriers and shuttered shops and a lot of people with guns. Well not quite, you’ll see the first line of barricades and that’s it.
I remember a guy describing his trip to Paris. He said that as he was walking around the city he couldn’t help thinking “if a man had a pressure washer here, he could make a killing”
Two thoughts on the Olympics so far: I thought the opening night ceremony was the absolute worst thing I’ve ever seen. I had to finally turn it off. Two – I have totally lost a HUGE amount of respect for the “games” when I learned that break dancing was now a medal ‘sport’. Really? Give ME a break!
I would enjoy Paris and/or Tahiti more without the Olympics, but I’m “stuck” here in a small mountain town (both small mountain and small town) so I’m gonna just enjoy being. Bless all you all.
To qualifying for inclusion in the Olympics an event needs to have organized competition in 70 nations for men, 50 (I think) for women. Hard to believe surfing and breaking meet that criteria but they must. Interestingly, those qualifications numbers are way down from 40 years ago. Then, I believe it was two thirds of all nations must have organized competition, men or women. So you would be talking 130 nations, give or take. I’m not saying this is good or bad but it certainly has made staging the Olympics more costly to include all these different sports.
WOW!!!! It’s amazing that GoComics has figured out how to bend the space-time continuum such that the comments feature will work on everything but political cartoons.
Once professional athletes were allowed to participate in the Olympics, I never watched them, again, except briefly, I think, in Winter, when Shotokan Karate was actually an event. Now, that has been removed, as well, from this one.

Is there any form of competition that is not an Olympic event any more?

I wouldn’t want to be in Paris right now. Tahiti would be much more peaceful.

I found Paris and Parisians unpleasant once you got away from the tourist traps.

I watched Women’s Surfing last night and it is no surprise that Arlo is watching it. It is the most peaceful sport to watch!

The degenerate opening to the Olympics means I won’t be watching, and I am no longer interested in visiting Paris.

We shoot accordion on sight in France. (joke, but it is something you hear only in touristic areas, thank goodness)

If I were forced to live in a city, Paris was nice enough. Le Metro was hard to beat.
