My Mom grew up during the Depression. They were dirt poor. One day, she and some other kids were staring at pastries in a bakery window. Some soldiers from a nearby base walked by and felt sorry for the poor, raggedy kids and went in and brought them out a box of pastries. She never forgot that. A small act of kindness that meant so much to her.
