    That’s pretty much how my annual reviews go. At least, after I break in a new manager. The new ones keep asking stupid things like “What are your goals for advancement?” If I wanted to advance, I’d have gone into management decades ago.

    I once got a civil service job after a nice interview chat. My new supervisor later told me there were more qualified applicants but that I would clearly be more interesting to work with.

    The job was correcting pre-printed mistakes on water quality field reports – not rocket science.
