I can’t imagine any other place for a clown to go to!!!

Since some people think clowns are scary, maybe he went to a scary place. Which would be the “other direction”.

Well the speaker looks like a sad clown (and the listeners, too). It could easily be a happier place than they are (and his body is) in right now.
