Barney was afraid of thunder when he was outside. Inside the flimsiest metal shed, he was comforted. In the house, he wanted sympathy. My husband would say “Boom Boom” in a pitiful voice, and Barney would look sadder than ever. He was so cute.
Gus would either hide in the closet or try to climb up on your pillow with your head already there. Shadow wanted to go outside and compete with the noise from thunder and fireworks.
My poor Sunny, and English Yellow Lab who did Not care for swimming at the park OR taking baths, would, at the first rumble, pick up her stuffed Kitty, go in the bathroom, close the door and hunker down in the bathtub. No amount of coaxing would get her out until it was done.

Fred’s comment “What a horrible day!” reminds me of a rainy morning when my Dad was singing the following lyrics:-
“Oh, what a horrible morning,
Oh what a horrible day,
I’ve got a horrible feeling,
Rain is coming our way!"

Nothing like pre-worrying, Fred! Get it over with.

We had a real thunderstorm in Oregon a couple weeks ago. First one I’ve seen in 20 year here. Unfortunately, several wildfires were started.

I’ve had 5 basset hounds over the years. Fortunately, they have always been chill dudes during storms :-)
