Love this! We still say “24-1\2 century”, but it’s not quite as much fun, seeing as we’re now in the 21st century. The Hubs ran across a rack-shaped piece of scrap at work & showed it to his boss, telling him they had the rack, now they need the pinion. Then they could make shaving cream. Boss laughed for 5 mins & was seen chuckling merrily to himself the rest of the day. (Said piece now lives on our bookcase.)
The Space Opera vibe probably came from there – but “Star Wars: A New Hope” lifted stuff wholesale from Akira Kurosawa’s movie “Hidden Fortress” (“Kakushi Toride no San Akunin”).
