Many decades ago, in college, I took a World Civilization course. In one lecture, the Prof told us that, early in human development, women ruled the tribe. This is because the men were hunting, but with only rudimentary tools, and frequently became hunted by their own prey. The women stayed with the children, and learned what plants were edible, and how to cultivate them. They ruled the sustenance, and thus ruled the tribe.
Recent article in the Smithsonian Magazine: The women may have hunted alongside the men, and the men “gathered” berries and such with the women. SO get off your butts ladies! Show ‘em how it’s done! :-D
The orange carrot did not exist until the 16th century AD. As for your professor’s theory he doesn’t have to speculate on stone age culture, there are plenty stone age cultures still in existence and none of them exhibit that attribute.

You eat what you can eat.
You eat whatever you can catch or gather or whatever you can get.

Oh good. You’re on your way to creating an agricultural surplus, thus taking the first step toward modern civilization. Keep it up.
