My daughter named her Roomba Rodger. She says it cleans like a man, mostly just the center of rooms. It will get stuck in the same corner a lot of the time.
My Samsung e-Robot (a Chinese generic with the Samsung label…) got stuck against a door jamb once, hitting it over and over again. Its strategy was to react to the jamb by moving one degree left, hitting it again, moving one degree right, hitting it again and… I left it go at it expecting the AI to realize its mistake and move away from the jamb. It ran out of battery eventually and only then decided to turn around and go away. Not toward the charger, because it has no idea where it is, just going around hoping to find the infrared beacon somewhere. Until it died completely… just beside the charger… If this is the AI you’re fearing so much, forget it. We’re good! :D
I wondered the same thing Betty but amazingly my little Roomba manages to vacuum every square inch of my place. The instructions said it uses GPS, but the pattern has no rhyme or reason that I can understand. The cat doesn’t care though, and just enjoys the ride.

I swear mine goes toward some flotsam on the floor and veers off before she could pick it up.

I was given a free one that wasn’t worth the price. It got stuck on a floor air vent and had no idea of what to do.

The Drunkard’s Walk is a valid strategy. FWIW, I have a Deebot (named R2 Deebot).

I used to have a rug with a Ouija Board pattern. I had to get rid of it. My Roomba kept summoning demons!

I never want one. Never know when it will go all Cyborg or Cylon on us.
