An interesting thing about unions – capitalists are against them because they’re communistic, and communists are against them because they’re capitalistic.
It’s interesting what some companies will do whenever there’s a hint of impending unionisation. Some harass & run off suspected organisers, some other smaller ones will promote organisers to management to keep the potential union pool too small to organise, and yet others will offer all kinds of little incentives (e.g. extra sick/vacation time, token pay rises, etc) to placate their workers.
A company that I worked for was treating the workers poorly at one of the plants. They wanted a union and the company campaigned against it with “Company good, union bad!”, never addressing the workers concerns. The union never got in.
Unions can be good, but when unions are so expensive they are ridiculous. And what do they do for you when the company let’s you go? Nothing expect keep your money. I have friends that work in union jobs and they flat out hate it.
Not all unions are the same. Some benefit employees with improved work conditions and benefits, some promote business to create better opportunities for workers, some just fill the union bosses pockets with money.
