My family is weird (and whose isn’t). We don’t have any family feuds and we like one another. However, we just don’t talk with each other. After years of not talking to my sister or my cousin – the only surviving members of my generation on my father’s side, I decided to start calling them once a week.
Due to differing political beliefs we limit our conversation to mostly trivial things like, “What was that dish mom used to cook with the noodles and ground beef? What did she put in it?”
It’s funny how even in this day and age, the telephone only works in one direction. Eh, it’s easy enough to do and it doesn’t cost as much as it used to and we only have so many years left.
Is there anyone you’d like to call just to say, “hi.”
I try to mix email contact with hand written letters and cards. Email just doesn’t provide the human touch, especially when serious news is the subject. But have to admit, age has made handwriting harder to handle, Thankfully, there are fonts that mimic mine well enough for the letters, etc. Not quite the same as early days but close.
