What ever happened to actually EARNING your allowance? I sure had to, and back in the stone age when I was a young girl, I got $.50 per week, but then I got a bottle of soda, a bag of potato chips and a chocolate had thirty cents left over. lol
Sounds like the beginning of an interesting parable ending with him feeding pigs and resolving to respect his momma.. a little creative license doesn’t change the moral.
This cartoon harks (harkens?) back to when I was a little kid, and my dad’s shop. He offered a customer a soft drink, since he was getting himself one, from the vending machine. The customer said, “No, thanks, but I’ll take the money!” “the money” was a dime way back then, and I didn’t know if the guy was weird or broke or what was going on. Years later, I decided that the guy had probably had the line used on him by a lady at a bar or something, and had been dying for the opportunity to use it himself, regardless of circumstances.
The cash value of a nice home-prepared meal doesn’t include expenses for actual preparing and other service provided by the family members, just the groceries. So that amounts to maybe one or two dollars. Even the worst fastfood joint can give you that much nutrition that a parent will provide you with.
