After a day of installing wood flooring, I know why bears are so grumpy and mean.

I am sure that’ll be the case once I finish cutting up the downed limbs from the recent snow

At the age of 88, even small jobs result in big time pain.

A plugger knows that finishing the to-do list often comes with the warm feeling of satisfaction … and knowledge that the Mrs. has whole ’nother list ready and waiting.

Husband and I are 18th century reenactors. We belong to a civilian group not a military unit group.

When we first joined – some decades ago – there were 3 “older” women who would do the cooking demo and home craft demos. Over time they left the unit as they became too old to keep coming. (Fellows in unit do a period ceremony, including “mourn arms” at funerals or wakes for any members who pass away and their family want same.)

As the only female on the board I was asked to take over the cooking. I explained I knew the theory, but had never cooked over a fire. I was so good at it that I was stuck doing same for a decade or two plus until a fellow took over. I was telling this story to someone at an event and then dawned on me – I am probably about the age that those “old” ladies were when they were doing the cooking! The fellow who had taken over me left the unit. Our unit commander took over cooking and I told him that I would help him when he needed to do other things around the camp (such as run the military drills), but I could not go back to doing the cooking as I could no longer lift the big heavy cast iron pots empty – let alone with food in them!

Sitting on my rear end doing embroidery is more something for an old lady to do than cook with those heavy pots over a fire!
