Yesterday, I pulled onto the local #1 highway, heading East, and found the traffic at a crawl. It was very near sunset and there was the biggest, brightest double rainbow I have seen in a long time, dead ahead. As soon as it faded, traffic got back up to legal speed.
Long ago I moved to Tacoma Washington. It rained and was cloudy every darn day for months. Then one day it cleared just as I made a turn on the freeway towards the mountains and there was Mount Rainer as clear as a postcard. I slowed , nearly stopped the car on the freeway in awe. Then it started to rain an hour later…rain nearly every GD day…..then I moved to Portland……no surprises there when the rain briefly stopped….moved then to San Diego…sunny nearly every GD day……. ;-)
I don’t think they like us enjoying nature. I’ve been stopped often by the police simply for driving with the top down in our Canadian winters. One time I overheard her muttering to herself as she walked back to her cruiser, shaking her head, “It just isn’t right.”
Our college in Annapolis has a sister campus in Santa Fe. One time some people who’d transferred out to Santa Fe came back for a visit and walked around saying, “Oh, this rain is great, it’s so lousy, we’re so sick of blue skies!”

“By California law I have the right to search your car if I stop you for any reason,” the highway patrolman said to me.
