I never cross a log with my dog on a leash, and make sure he goes first so I don’y get knocked over.

On a hike in Canyonlands years ago, I navigated a tree spanning a gap like the one shown to get to the (unofficial) overlook of the confluence. Unlike the picture, I was on my hands and knees, no dog. It was a stupid thing to do. There is a saying that old mountaineers are those who survive their mistakes.
