Why a bubble gum chew?

Today’s strip is kind of old fashioned, outdated. Nowadays with women’s lib and equality, it should be Lucy paying for the dinner on Beethoven’s birthday. Equal rights should be divided 50%. Schroeder could take out Lucy and pay for dinner when it is Taylor Swift’s birthday. Or Beyonce’s.
