    I was walking my dachshund in the park and a police officer stared a bit with a stern look. I shouted , “Did you call for a K-9 unit?”. He broke into laughter. We chatted a bit. He’s near retirement and thinking of getting a dog. I bet it will be a police dog.

    In the old times, policemen had still time and enough staff to know “their” town and the people who lived there. Of course they would know and like Fred. :-D

    Been reading this strip for 50+ years and I don’t know what city it takes place in. Obviously a smaller one in which the people and police know each other more than they seem to in big cities. Or Fred and the Darlings live in a friendly neighborhood in a big city.
